Teachers who pass promotional exam to get January 2026 start date after gov’t resolves promotion dispute – Dr Apaak assures

The government has reached an agreement to resolve a dispute over teachers' promotional examinations, ensuring that all successful candidates will begin their new positions and receive their salaries in January 2026. Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Abas Apaak announced this decision during an emergency meeting with representatives from the Education Ministry, the Controller and Accountant General, the Ghana Education Service, and teacher unions.

Teachers had expressed concerns about needing to submit additional documentation, such as their last pay slips, even though they were already employed within the education service. The government has agreed that these affected teachers will no longer be required to provide this documentation. Apaak also addressed the issue of different examination dates, explaining that some teachers took the exam earlier than others and that this was not the responsibility of the latter group.

The government plans to complete the necessary administrative processes in September to place successful candidates on their appropriate salary scales. Apaak assured that the teachers have agreed to give the government September to ensure that those who passed the exams are properly scaled to their new positions, and will not require the earlier documentation.

He praised the teacher unions for their cooperation, stating that the agreement is vital for maintaining industrial peace. Apaak expressed gratitude to the teachers for reaching a compromise, saying that the outcome was satisfactory for all involved.
