The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has unveiled a new Load & Outage Analytics platform aimed at improving grid reliability. Speaking at a technical presentation and live demonstration, TCN's Managing Director Sule Abdulaziz highlighted that while the system is not yet fully deployed, it has already increased visibility of the transmission network.
Abdulaziz emphasized that technical and commercial losses continue to be significant challenges for TCN, underscoring the need for better load management and supply-demand matching to enhance grid stability and reduce outages. Improved load management would not only boost operational efficiency but also lower costs associated with prolonged power interruptions.
According to TCN, the lack of comprehensive and consistent data has plagued their reliability reporting, leading to delays in management decisions and suboptimal national reliability assessments. To tackle these issues, TCN's Operations department has developed the platform in-house, featuring 13 modules that consolidate operations.
This system offers region, station, transformer, and feeder views for load analysis, automatically categorizes outages, and produces board-ready reliability KPI reports within minutes instead of days.
