TCC unveils bigger vision for seventh season

Nigeria's fastest-growing grassroots football league, The Creative Championship (TCC), has outlined its ambitious plans for its seventh season, aiming to enhance data-driven player development, scouting opportunities, and pathways to professional football. Established in November 2020, TCC has already produced over 100 players who have represented clubs across Africa, Asia, North America, and Europe.

Looking ahead, the league seeks to strengthen its role as a bridge between grassroots football and the professional game by offering competitive opportunities, measuring player development, and increasing visibility for emerging talent.

In an interview ahead of the new season, TCC's Chief Operating Officer, Chike Nwoye, emphasized that the league's ambitions extend beyond on-field results, stating that succeeding in Nigeria's tough sports business environment over successive seasons is proof of their success. TCC has recently signed a deal with Titan GPS, a move aimed at not only participating in the football ecosystem but also enhancing it.

The seventh season kicked off with the TCC Super Cup on Saturday, where Atlantic Business FC emerged victorious over Beyond Limits, with Bolaji Abdul-Rahman's 79th-minute goal securing the title. Beyond Limits has dominated the competition since its inception, clinching five of the first six league titles, while Real Sapphire has won the other two. In the recent TCC Cup, Atlantic Business FC claimed their first title, while Beyond Limits and Real Sapphire have each won twice.

TCC's expansion plans for the 2026/27 season include assessing D’Shack and Gaiters through the TCC Cup after their impressive performances in the selection process. The league's impact on Nigeria's youth national teams is noteworthy, with several TCC players representing Nigeria at various levels. Musa Akinfenwa, Ebenezer Harcourt, Bidemi Amole, and Kparobo Arierhi have all been part of Nigeria's WAFU B U-20 Championship team, while Ahmed Akinyele, Jude Sunday, and Solomon Agbalaka have featured at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA U-20 World Cup.

At U-17 level, seven TCC players have represented Nigeria, including Israel Nwachukwu Usulor, Musa Akinfenwa, Muiz Oladimeji, Oreoluwa Agbenla, Daniel Arierhi, Edward Ochigbo, and Great Edafe. Notably, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, who started at TCC and has since played for Nigeria's Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, further highlights the league's contribution to the country's football landscape.
