Supreme Court lets construction continue on Trump's $558m ballroom

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to allow construction to continue on President Trump's $558 million ballroom project at the White House. The majority did not decide the legality of the project, but found a preservation group likely lacked the legal authority to challenge it. The lawsuit will now return to lower courts, but documents suggest key aspects of the project could be finished within months.

The decision follows a brief temporary order issued earlier this month, before a court-ordered halt would have begun. Chief Justice John Roberts, who handled the appeals, publicly disagreed with the decision, describing the project as "likely unlawful" as it lacks Congressional approval. The three liberal-leaning justices agreed with Roberts' assessment.

Trump praised the ruling, stating, "I am pleased to report that the United States Supreme Court has just ruled in favor of the Ballroom/Military Complex being built without any further contingency, doubt, or threat." Despite the victory, the National Trust for Historic Preservation expressed disappointment, maintaining that Presidents do not have unilateral authority to redesign the People's House without Congressional approval.
