Stokes’ 2 TDs, Memphis’ defensive line leads Tigers past UNLV 27-21

Marcus Stokes delivered a stellar performance for the Memphis Tigers, tossing for 223 yards and two touchdowns as his team secured a hard-fought 27-21 victory over UNLV on Saturday night. The win marked Charles Huff's first successful road debut as head coach of the Tigers. Marcus completed 15 out of 26 passes without committing any turnovers, while Jaylin Carter rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

UNLV took an early 14-7 lead at halftime, fueled by a 38-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Arnold to Tavian McNair and a 6-yard touchdown run by Arnold himself. The Rebels had won their last 11 games when leading at the break, the most recent loss coming against Syracuse on October 4, 2024.

In the third quarter, Marcus tied the game with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Stonka Burnside. UNLV responded with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Arnold to Kayden McGee. Jaylin Carter responded again with a 36-yard run to bring the score to 21-all.

Philippe Laforge added 32 and 36-yard field goals, giving Memphis a 27-21 halftime lead. Despite reaching the Memphis 18-yard line in the fourth quarter, UNLV was unable to capitalize, falling short as the Tigers sealed the win through relentless pressure and six sacks, along with 11 tackles for loss. Jackson Arnold completed 21 of 35 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
