S'pore animal lovers put up billboard sign in Selegie for Wang Wang, dog who died after 4 boys set her on fire in China
The billboard called for an end to animal abuse.
Animal advocates in Singapore have erected a billboard in Selegie to honor Wang Wang, a dog who perished in June after four young boys allegedly set her ablaze in China. The four accused individuals, minors, reportedly subjected the dog and her puppies to severe abuse before killing them in Guangdong, China. The incident drew global condemnation, with the International Organisation for Animal Protection receiving over 100 reports from concerned citizens worldwide.
The case has also shed light on China's inadequate animal cruelty legislation. In Singapore, a billboard displaying Wang Wang's image emerged in Wilkie Edge, calling for an end to animal abuse. The billboard was displayed for two days at the end of August, and the poster expressed gratitude to the local dog community for their support.
Chinese authorities confirmed the case on June 30 after videos of the boys abusing the dogs went viral on social media. The boys were allegedly seen beating the strays with sticks and setting Wang Wang on fire in some of the footage. The dogs succumbed to their injuries, and the boys were subsequently placed in specialized education programs.
Authorities advised the public to refrain from disseminating information about the case involving minors.
