Special weather statement issued for Toronto, GTA with up to 50 mm of rain expected Monday

Toronto residents are bracing for a wet and unsettled August as Environment Canada issues a special weather statement for the city and surrounding regions. The advisory warns of showers and thunderstorms capable of dropping up to 50 millimetres of rain through Monday afternoon and evening, with some areas potentially seeing more than the forecasted amount.

Already, up to 25 millimetres of rain has fallen in certain neighbourhoods this morning. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected this afternoon, bringing an additional 20 to 30 millimetres, particularly in areas impacted by thunderstorms. While the overall severe weather threat remains low, Environment Canada highlights the risk of localized flooding, especially in low-lying spots and along major commuter routes.

Temperatures will peak at 23°C in Toronto on Monday, but the incoming moisture will raise the humidex to around 30, making conditions feel warmer and more oppressive. Overnight, expect cloudy skies with periods of rain and a low of 19°C. Monday night's weather will be similar, with steady rain at times and a mild low.

Mid-week looks set to heat up, with temperatures soaring on Tuesday, reaching a high of 28°C and a humidex near 36. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible late in the evening. Wednesday will remain unsettled, with morning showers and a possible isolated thunderstorm. Skies will stay mostly cloudy with humidity lingering, pushing the high to 28°C and the low to 17°C.

Thursday will continue the trend with a chance of early showers and a high near 26°C.
