Singapore Red Cross Raises $1 Million to Aid Nepal Flood Victims

The Singapore Red Cross has raised approximately $1 million to aid flood victims in Nepal and Tibet, according to reports from CNA and The Straits Times. The Singaporean government contributed $100,000 as initial funding, which will be used to provide immediate relief to the affected communities. The funds will support various relief efforts, including distribution of drinking water, procurement of emergency supplies such as tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first-aid kits, and body bags.

The Red Cross has also opened its doors to those affected by the floods, offering psychological first aid services provided by trained volunteers. The organization is working alongside their Nepalese counterparts and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies to reunite families separated by the disaster.

Durga Naidu, head of the Singapore Red Cross Academy's Center for Psychosocial Resilience and Humanitarian Studies, encourages anyone seeking help to reach out, as people may not ask for assistance when numb to the situation at hand. Donations can be made through various methods, including credit card payments via Giving.sg, DeeDa and Give.Asia, PayNow donations using the UEN S86CC0370ERF1, cheques sent directly to the Singapore Red Cross Society, or in-person donations at Red Cross House. The death toll from the flash floods has reached 750, with over 3,000 people still missing.
