Singapore Police: 171 victims identified after mobile shop employees allegedly used customers’ Singpass to create LiquidPay accounts

Singapore Police confirm 171 victims identified following alleged exploitation of Singpass accounts by mobile shop employees. Two Chinese Malaysian men, aged 25 and 47, were arrested on August 25, 2026 for allegedly accessing customers' Singpass accounts without permission to create LiquidPay e-wallets. Investigations, conducted between August 21-25, involved the Cyber Command and Singpass Trust and Safety team.

The men were employees at a Singapore mobile phone shop. The fraudsters exploited routine customer interactions to secretly register fraudulent LiquidPay accounts with customers' Singpass details, often by offering to update the customer's mobile number linked to their Singpass account. The illicit accounts generated over S$110,063 through various scams.

At least 20 Singapore citizens and work permit holders had already been investigated for involvement in registering LiquidPay accounts using stolen credentials. A total of 171 additional victims had their Singpass accounts compromised in the same scheme. Charges include assisting others to retain benefits from criminal conduct, carrying up to ten years' imprisonment and a fine of S$500,000.

Investigations into those who voluntarily disclosed their Singpass information are ongoing. The Police warn against disclosing Singpass passwords or Two-Factor Authentication details, and advise caution when accepting offers of monetary gain in exchange for Singpass access.
