Self-funded Simarver nets Macau Junior Open crown

KUALA LUMPUR - Self-funded player Simarver Singh Bamotra claimed victory at the Macau Junior Open boys Under-17 title on Sunday. The Selangor native, seeded third, overcame second seed Chun Hin Ho of Hong Kong in the final, overcoming a game deficit to win 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9. In the semi-finals, Simarver defeated fifth seed Chi Yan Cheung of Hong Kong with a 3-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 result.

Simarver expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating that he was happy with his consistency throughout the tournament. He credited his training centre, Shoukry ACE Squash Academy at Universiti Malaya, as well as coaches Shehab Mostara and Abdel Naiem for their guidance. Simarver also expressed gratitude to his parents for funding his travel to compete in international tournaments.

The young squash prodigy aims to compete in the British Junior Open next year, and will also participate in the Indian Junior Open (Kolkata, Sept 19-24) and Milo All Star Malaysian Junior Open (Kuala Lumpur, Oct 13-18). Simarver's passion for the sport began when he met Malaysian squash legend Ong Beng Hee, prompting him to take the sport seriously.

Since then, he has trained and competed internationally to improve and represent Malaysia on the PSA Tour. Simarver's younger brother Balver also participated in the Macau Junior Open, finishing in 10th place in the Under-13 category.
