Sarawak nurseries, kindergartens to operate based on haze conditions

Sarawak's nurseries and kindergartens will operate based on air quality conditions, according to State Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah. The approval was made to assist working parents in the absence of alternative childcare options. Fatimah emphasized that nurseries and kindergartens are considered safe environments for children, with teachers trained in child care and safety.

Indoor activities will be prioritized to minimize exposure to poor air quality. The decision to allow operation is made on a case-by-case basis, with parents applying to the facilities to care for their children while they work. Meanwhile, schools in Sarawak remain on break and are scheduled to reopen on September 8, pending further monitoring of Air Pollutant Index readings.
