Saltpond residents renew call for return of Founders’ Day celebrations

Ernest De-Graft Egyir, the President of the Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA), has once again urged President John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his pledge to bring back Founders’ Day celebrations to the town of Saltpond. Egyir argued that restoring the national event would help revive the town's historical significance and contribute to its development.

He recalled that Mahama, then the opposition leader and a special guest of honor at the 2023 Odambea Festival, had pledged to return Founders’ Day to Saltpond. The MSDA aims to raise GH¢500,000 for a new development project, which includes a modern recreational, tourism, educational, library, and youth resource centre. The alliance has so far raised GH¢300,000 through the support of three Chief Executive Officers.

Paramount Chief Nii Ahene Nunoo III at the event emphasized the importance of youth development and urged them to focus on building the town rather than engaging in negative behaviors.
