Poland Opens Terrorism Probe Into Fire at Drone Factory

Polish prosecutors have launched a terrorism investigation into a fire that erupted at a drone factory in Skarżysko-Kamienna, southern Poland. The blaze occurred early Monday morning at a WB Electronics plant, around 12:23 a.m. local time. Surveillance footage reportedly captured a masked individual entering the facility shortly before the fire.

Polish media sources suggest the fire may have been intentionally set. An intrusion alarm was initiated at the same time, prompting security personnel to notify local law enforcement. Firefighters took two hours to extinguish the blaze. Prosecutors allege the incident is linked to "participation in the activities of a foreign intelligence service directed against the Republic of Poland and for a terrorist offense."

No suspects have been publicly identified yet. This incident is part of a series of suspected sabotage and espionage activities attributed to Russia, which Poland and other EU nations view as part of a broader hybrid campaign against NATO members. Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft near the town of Łeba.

Earlier in the week, Poland issued air-raid warnings to residents in several regions due to the threat of drones entering Polish airspace. The government subsequently amended its public-warning system following a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile entering Polish airspace and crashing in July. Poland is not the only country facing such issues; Moldova and Romania have also reported Russian drones violating their airspace.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned of potential regional escalation, emphasizing the critical nature of the next seven to eight months for the security of Ukraine and Poland. Polish special forces are currently participating in US-led drills focused on drone warfare to prepare for a possible confrontation with Russia.
