Poland opens terror probe into fire at drone factory

Polish prosecutors have accused foreign intelligence services of possibly orchestrating an arson attack on a WB Electronics factory, according to a statement released by the prosecutors. The factory, which manufactures reconnaissance drones and loitering munitions utilized by Ukraine's forces against Russian forces, experienced a fire at around midnight on Monday.

The blaze was swiftly contained by an employee and the local fire department, with no injuries reported and minimal damage to the facility. However, the incident has been deemed a "terrorist crime" by Polish authorities, who are actively investigating the matter. The prosecutors from Kraków branch of Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office suspect that a device containing flammable materials was deliberately placed on WB Electronics' premises.

The perpetrators remain at large, and the case is being viewed in the broader context of recent attacks on critical infrastructure linked to European military support for Ukraine. These incidents are believed to be primarily the work of Russia, with Western authorities increasingly pointing the finger towards Moscow. The latest suspected attack comes amid heightened tensions between Poland and Russia, as Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz prepares to announce Berlin's response to the escalating situation in the coming days.
