PM Shehbaz leaves for three-day visit to Kyrgyzstan for SCO summit

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif embarked on a three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 2, attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) informed the public via a post on X that the premier would address the SCO summit and voice Pakistan's perspectives on diverse regional and global matters.

Accompanying the Prime Minister were Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. The Foreign Office had previously emphasized that the visit would entail participation in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, bilateral engagements, and the SCO Plus Summit.

The Prime Minister would also preside over Pakistan's chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-2027. Additionally, he would partake in the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31. During his tenure in Bishkek, the Prime Minister would engage in bilateral talks with Kyrgyzstan's President, reviewing Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and exploring avenues for deepening cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both nations share a history of warm and fraternal relations, based on common faith, cultural affinity, and aspirations for peace, connectivity, and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
