For the week of Burning Man, a phone booth is set up on the street corner of 3:30 and Ceiba, outside the Temple of the Flying Spaghetti Monster in Black Rock City, Nevada. Anyone can use this phone booth to make free calls anywhere in the world for up to five minutes. If someone knows a friend or loved one's number, they can dial it and hopefully connect with that person.

Alternatively, anyone passing by the booth might pick up the call. To make calling easier in the future, users can add Playa Phone as a contact in their phone.

If the phone is in use when someone tries to call, they will hear a busy signal. If the phone rings six times and then hangs up, no one answered the call. Users are advised not to be surprised if they have to try multiple times to get through to someone. Some calls might come from a friend, loved one, or even a random stranger who was walking by the booth and decided to dial their number.
