Pentagon inks 7-year deals to bolster interceptor production

The Pentagon announced on Monday the signing of two critical agreements to dramatically boost the production of interceptor missiles. The United States has been struggling with depleted stocks of these vital weapons as it continues to defend against Iranian drone and missile assaults on American bases and allies in the region. Missile production is a lengthy process, and it will take years to replenish the defense force's supplies.

In a statement, the Department of Defense outlined the signing of seven-year framework agreements with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and Lockheed Martin. These agreements aim to expedite the production and deployment of two key US missile defense systems: the Patriot Pac-3 missiles and Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) interceptors.

Undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, Michael Duffey, highlighted that these agreements would streamline bureaucratic procedures, thereby accelerating the supply of these defense systems. This development underscores the evolution of partnerships between the US military and industry to bolster the arsenal of freedom, stay ahead of emerging threats, and ensure that troops never face an unfair fight, he said.

The push for increased missile defense systems is driven by a rapidly growing demand across the Middle East and Europe.
