PANDA Therapeutics secures €160K to advance multi-target Alzheimer’s therapy

Biotech startup PANDA Therapeutics has secured €160,000 from Venture Kick to advance its innovative Alzheimer's treatment toward clinical development. The company's strategy involves targeting multiple harmful protein deposits in the brain with a single therapy to improve treatment efficacy and slow disease progression. Alzheimer's disease impacts millions globally and strains patients, families, and healthcare systems.

Existing treatments primarily focus on amyloid-beta, an Alzheimer's-associated protein, with limited success. Researchers now recognize that multiple abnormal protein deposits, including amyloid-beta and tau, contribute to cognitive decline, highlighting the need for broader therapies. PANDA Therapeutics is developing a novel antibody-based treatment that simultaneously targets several harmful protein deposits.

This approach aims to prevent the spread of these deposits and assist the body in eliminating them from the brain, offering a comprehensive and prolonged strategy to slow Alzheimer's progression. Founded by CEO Hui Zhang, PANDA Therapeutics draws upon Zhang's extensive drug discovery expertise in neuroscience. The startup anticipates major customers and strategic partners in global pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, providing avenues for licensing, co-development, and commercialization as PANDA advances its lead program.

Venture Kick's €160,000 funding will primarily bolster PANDA Therapeutics' operations, including forming a strong scientific and clinical advisory board, developing a robust CMC strategy, and preparing for clinical development. Additionally, the funds will support IP and regulatory planning, investor and pharma engagement, and position PANDA for future financing and partnership opportunities.
