Oti Regional Health Committee pushes for medical store in Worawora to support Free Primary Healthcare

The Oti Regional Health Committee is actively seeking to establish a regional medical store in Worawora, aimed at supporting the implementation of Free Primary Health Care across the region. During the 2026 Half-Year Performance Review Meeting of the Oti Regional Health Directorate on August 26, 2026, the Committee's Chairman, Professor Mark Appiah, highlighted the importance of such a facility in ensuring that essential medicines and supplies reach health facilities promptly, thereby improving access and quality of healthcare.

The initiative comes as the Committee identifies the shortage and delayed distribution of medicines and essential supplies as a significant challenge to healthcare delivery in the region. In addition to the proposed medical store, the Committee is also working on securing legal title to lands belonging to the Ghana Health Service within the Oti Region, to protect these lands from encroachment and disputes.

Dr Kofi Amo-Kodieh, the Oti Regional Director of Health Services, welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the need for additional resources, particularly in human resources, to overcome challenges faced in service delivery, particularly at hard-to-reach health facilities. He urged stakeholders to support the Committee's efforts, emphasizing the collective responsibility to realize the medical store and sustain Free Primary Health Care for the people of Oti Region.
