Origin Agritech opens biotech research center in Guizhou

Origin Agritech, a biotech company, inaugurated a research center in Guizhou Province on Monday, according to a press release. The facility spans two entities: a wholly-owned subsidiary and a joint venture with state control, where Origin holds a 25% stake. The 8,000-square-meter complex houses an experimental zone, molecular testing, tissue culture, and greenhouses totaling over 15,000 square meters.

Supported by 160 mu of standardized field trial land, the center aims to advance molecular breeding, germplasm innovation, and virus-free sweet potato seedlings. The wholly-owned subsidiary concentrates on 11 crops, offering genetic transformation and a 100,000 DH lines platform. Meanwhile, the joint venture focuses on corn research, production, and sales, targeting mountainous regions with over 300 distributors.

Over 10,000 corn germplasm accessions were deployed this year for field trials, with several new combinations entering provincial trials. The center was opened by prominent figures including Dai Jingrui and Huang Haoyang, alongside representatives from research institutions.
