Ontario breaks ground on longest stretch of proposed Ring of Fire road network

Construction has commenced on the most extensive stretch of a planned road network connecting Ontario's mineral-rich Ring of Fire region to the province's highway system. The inaugural payment for the one-year contract totals $205.00 plus GST, with subsequent annual renewals at $233.00 plus GST. This subscription automatically renews every 52 weeks, offering a 10% discount off the regular annual price of $259.35.

The deal is available to both new and qualified returning subscribers, with a cancellation option at any time. The provincial government announced the groundbreaking, highlighting how the road will bolster connections to vital services and spur community development. Chief Bruce Achneepineskum of Marten Falls First Nation emphasized the route's role in strengthening access to healthcare and other essential services, while also helping to spur growth.

The government views the project as part of a broader strategy to tap into the Ring of Fire region's economic potential and meet global demand for minerals. However, the plan has drawn criticism from some First Nations, particularly over legislation that grants the government expedited permitting powers for such projects. The 184-kilometre road to Marten Falls is anticipated to open by November 2031.
