Obuasi MCE appeals for support as FC AshantiGold 04 return to Premier League

Excitement has erupted in the mining town of Obuasi as Premier League football returns, with Municipal Chief Executive Faustilove Appiah Kannin urging stakeholders to rally behind FC AshantiGold 04. The club earned its place in the Ghana Premier League after claiming the Access Bank Division One League Zone Two title, marking its inaugural appearance in Ghana's top division.

Obuasi, devoid of Premier League action for years, now eagerly anticipates the club's historic campaign. Appiah Kannin, speaking to 3Sports, expressed the town's readiness to embrace FC AshantiGold 04 and support the team in its pursuit of success. However, she emphasized that financial resources are crucial for the club to thrive, considering aspects such as player welfare, travel, accommodation, and logistics.

She appealed to individuals, businesses, corporate institutions, and other stakeholders within and outside Obuasi to contribute to the club's financial needs. The MCE specifically called on AngloGold Ashanti and its contractors, significant corporate players in the region, to lend their support financially and otherwise. She believes the return of FC AshantiGold 04 to the Premier League offers a chance for the entire community to reunite and revive the strong football culture that Obuasi is known for.

Beyond the thrill of matchdays, a triumphant FC AshantiGold 04 could inject visibility and economic activity into the municipality, fostering a sense of pride among residents. The club's maiden season in the top flight will also provide Obuasi with the opportunity to host major Ghanaian football clubs again, with the Ashanti derby against Asante Kotoko being particularly anticipated.
