The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) clarified recent reductions in electricity allocations to Distribution Companies serving Lagos, Abuja and northern parts of the country. The changes were caused by multiple transmission line outages that constrained the capacity of the national grid, according to a statement from NISO's management.
NISO explained that while there was sufficient electricity generation, the transmission network needed to have enough capacity to transfer the power to different locations. The outages affected the Olorunsogo-Ayede 330kV Line 1, Benin-Egbin 330kV Line 1, Benin-Omotosho 330kV Line 1, Shiroro-Mararaba 330kV Line 1, Ajaokuta-Jos 330kV Lines 1 and 2, Shiroro-Katampe 330kV Line 1, Gwagwalada-Katampe 330kV Line 1, and other critical circuits.
Consequently, NISO had to revise and curtail allocations to Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric, Sakete international supply, and other DisCos in the affected areas to maintain secure operating limits.
