Nasarawa commissioner releases 37 impounded tricycles, warns against sanitation violations

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment, Princess Margaret Elayo, released 37 tricycles that were impounded for breaching movement restrictions during the state’s sanitation exercise. The commissioner announced this during a meeting with the affected operators in Lafia, according to a statement. The tricycles were kept off the roads for two days after their operators allegedly ignored the restrictions put in place to help with the monthly sanitation effort.

Elayo emphasized that the impounding aimed to discourage further violations and foster better cooperation with government initiatives to maintain a clean and healthy environment. She urged the tricycle operators to "go and sin no more" and support the government in ensuring compliance. The operators expressed regret over their actions and promised to cooperate with the ministry by following sanitation regulations and participating in future exercises.

Elayo reminded residents and tricycle operators that violating environmental sanitation laws can result in penalties, citing a mobile court ruling that prescribes a N10,000 fine for first-time offenders and N20,000 for repeat offenders. She urged the public to view environmental sanitation as a shared responsibility and called for continued cooperation between residents, transport operators, and government agencies to ensure that sanitation regulations are respected across Nasarawa State.
