Man who allegedly hid 19cm knife in shoe at Changi Airport T4 charged with carrying offensive weapon

A 32-year-old Indonesian man, Syaifudin Alfitroh, was charged on August 29 with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place after allegedly hiding a 19cm knife in his sock at Singapore's Changi Airport on August 27. The knife, measuring 19.5cm with a 12cm blade, was wrapped in multiple layers of plastic bags and tape and detected by an X-ray machine in Terminal 4's departure hall.

Police took a serious stance against the attempt, stating that those found in possession of offensive weapons without a lawful purpose will be dealt with firmly. Syaifudin is currently in remand, with his case set to be heard again on September 7. If convicted, he could face up to three years in jail and six strokes of the cane.
