Lionel Richie Hospitalized After St. Louis Concert

Lionel Richie, the 77-year-old Grammy-winning singer, has been hospitalized in St. Louis following a performance on Saturday. The musician, who is currently on the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, had previously experienced dehydration during the show at the Muny in St. Louis. Richie spoke about the necessity of electrolyte intake during the performance, stating that while the solution may be unpleasant, it is effective.

He finished the concert sitting down after requesting a chair from the stage crew. Earlier this summer, Richie had to cut a concert short in St. Paul, Minnesota, due to feeling dizzy during the show. He later performed three songs while seated and took an impromptu intermission. In a July 4 Instagram post, Richie reassured fans that he was doing well.

Older adults, including touring performers, are more susceptible to dehydration due to age-related changes in body composition, thirst sensation, and kidney function. Symptoms of dehydration include increased thirst, dry mouth, less frequent urination, and dark urine. Severe dehydration may require immediate medical attention and can contribute to confusion, falls, kidney issues, and electrolyte imbalances in older adults. Richie's next scheduled performance is on September 26 in San Francisco.
