The funeral for Norway's late King Harald V will take place on September 9, the royal palace announced. The ceremony, led by Presiding Bishop of the Church of Norway Olav Fykse Tveit, will occur at 1:00 pm in Oslo Cathedral. King Harald V, who passed away on Friday at the age of 89, was highly respected despite various scandals that plagued his family during his final years of rule.

Before the funeral announcement, the palace revealed that King Harald V's casket would be moved from the hospital to the Royal Palace's Red Salon on Friday evening, and then to the palace's chapel on Monday afternoon. Members of the public, who wish to pay their respects, will be able to walk slowly past the casket from 2:00 pm (1200 GMT) on Tuesday until the day before the funeral.

King Harald V is remembered as a symbol of an open and tolerant Norway, praised for his modern and modest leadership. However, he faced declining health in his later years and had to reduce his official schedule. The past year has been challenging for the Norwegian royal family, with Mette-Marit, King Haakon VIII's wife, under scrutiny due to her connections to the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Additionally, Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Hoiby, was sentenced to four years in prison for two rape convictions, an appeal is currently pending.
