Land minister nominee vows close consultations with Seoul on housing supply

The individual appointed to lead the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has vowed to maintain close correspondence with Seoul's city government regarding housing supply initiatives. Hong Jee-sun, who currently serves as vice land minister, made this statement following his appointment as the new head of the ministry, which came one day after the previous land minister faced opposition from Seoul for a plan to incorporate portions of Yongsan Park in the city's central area for housing development.

Hong assured reporters that he would engage in ample consultations with Seoul's local government prior to implementing housing policies to ensure their effective execution. He emphasized the significance of collaboration between central and local authorities, highlighting his expertise in housing and urban development strategies from his tenure at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

According to Hong, his primary objective is to swiftly provide high-quality housing in areas where residents desire to reside, with special consideration given to housing stability for young individuals and newlyweds. He further stated that he would strive to address the differences between housing supply plans effectively, in cooperation with the Seoul city government.
