Sewon University's Department of Electronic Engineering's Digital Transmission Research Lab and KMW Co., Ltd. have jointly developed an AI-based 5G beamforming technology.

Seokang University's digital transmission research lab has developed an AI-based 5G beamforming technology in collaboration with KMW, a company founded by alumni of the university's electronic engineering department. The technology is based on the 3GPP 5G NR standard and aims to maximize the performance and utilization of KMW's large-scale antenna array.

The research team, led by Professor Won-jin Sung, developed a mobile communication simulator that can analyze the performance of large-scale antenna systems. The simulator was used to test an AI-based dynamic subarray operation technology, which improved the average total transmission rate by 13% and energy efficiency by 273% compared to a fixed antenna configuration. The research was published in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology journal.
