Karim Zito backs Kwasi Sibo’s move to Al-Swehly

Ashanti Gold 04's head coach Karim Zito has expressed full support for Kwasi Sibo's transfer to Libyan champions Al-Swehly. The 28-year-old midfielder joined the North African club after leaving Spanish side Real Oviedo for a reported $10 million. This move has generated controversy, especially considering Sibo's impressive performances for the Ghana national team during the 2026 World Cup in North America. Some have questioned the rationale behind Sibo's decision to transfer at this point in his career.

Zito firmly defended Sibo's choice, stating, "I'm 100% behind Kwasi Sibo. If you don't fight for yourself now, nobody will fight for you." The veteran coach also raised concerns about footballers' ability to fully benefit from the promises made to them. He cited unfulfilled commitments made to Ghanaian players following their Africa Cup of Nations victory, asking, "What is the motive of playing football?"

During the World Cup, Sibo was a key player for Ghana, participating in all four matches and logging 249 minutes of playtime. He started in the goalless draw against England and also featured in the matches against Panama, Croatia, and Colombia. At Al-Swehly, Sibo is anticipated to play a vital role as the Libyan champions gear up for their CAF Champions League campaign, with an upcoming preliminary-round tie against Zanzibar's KVZ.

It remains uncertain whether Sibo will be included in Ghana's squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
