John Boadu denies being part of Akufo-Addo’s ‘kitchen cabinet’

John Boadu, a candidate to become the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted allegations that he was a part of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's so-called "kitchen cabinet" during his tenure in office. On Adom TV's Badwam, Boadu explained that his long-standing association with Akufo-Addo has been misread as evidence of his membership in the former President's inner circle.

Boadu stated that from 2002 to 2020, he held various positions within the NPP, which made his support for Akufo-Addo during presidential campaigns a part of his official duties within the party.

Boadu recounted his roles during the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. During the 2008 election, he served as the party's National Youth Organizer, and during the 2012 election, he functioned as the Deputy Communications Director. When asked about his role in these capacities, Boadu emphasized that he was always assigned a position within the party, such as during presidential primaries, which negated any need for him to be part of a "kitchen cabinet."

Boadu further questioned why he was not appointed to a position in Akufo-Addo's administration if he were genuinely considered part of the former President's close circle. He noted that after losing his bid for the NPP General Secretary position, he would have reasonably expected an appointment if he had been deemed a member of Akufo-Addo's inner circle.

Boadu asked, "Clearly, if I was part of his kitchen cabinet, like I would have been given a position after losing my General Secretary bid, wouldn't he have liked to give me a position?"
