Israel Navy's first female missile boat chief expected to earn further promotions - exclusive

The first female missile boat commander in Israel's navy, Lieutenant Commander R, has demonstrated exceptional skill in her first six months of command, with her performance so impressive that she is expected to receive further promotions, according to the Jerusalem Post. When the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced her appointment as the first-ever female boat commander in February, she had already shattered a new glass ceiling within the navy.

R's appointment marked her as the most prominent new female representative in the navy, a position she has held since.

In recent years, the Israeli navy has witnessed an increase in the presence of female sailors and officers. However, R's appointment as the first female missile boat commander set her apart as a notable figure. The missile boat under her command was reportedly set to play a pivotal role in naval combat operations, having already been involved in a series of high-profile missions.

These included attacks on the Syrian navy, the assassination of the political head of Hamas in Gaza, the head of Hezbollah's aerial threats Unit 127, and various other offensive and defensive operations.

The Post can confirm that under R's leadership, the missile boat has continued to engage in high-stakes operations for the navy, successfully carrying out complex missions. R joined the navy's commanders course in 2016 and has since held a diverse range of positions, including deputy commander of a missile boat and commander of a Dvora-class vessel.

In February, then-IDF Navy chief Vice Admiral David Saar Salama commended R, stating that she was the right choice for the role based solely on her qualifications. The IDF also sought to highlight the advancement of women in combat roles by appointing her to this position. R's continued exceptional performance under her current superiors suggests that she will likely earn additional promotions in the near future.
