Islamabad to Get New Electronic Parking System

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad is implementing a time-based electronic parking system at seven locations, as reported to the Senate Standing Committee on Interior. This digital system will record vehicles' stay durations and monitor parking charges through an electronic dashboard. Senator Naseema Ehsan mentioned that a traffic management system similar to one in Karachi had also been initiated in Islamabad.

The issue of inadequate parking spaces affects residents, visitors, and individuals from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and other provinces who reside in or visit the capital. The Blue Area parking plaza, which has been completed, aims to alleviate these parking challenges. Parking fees are collected according to CDA's approved layout plan, utilizing cashless payments and QR codes at all facilities.

However, Senator Abid Sher Ali raised concerns regarding contradictory statements about parking arrangements, questioning the completion of the Blue Area parking plaza despite ongoing road-based fee collections. He also suggested that new plazas should include adequate underground parking facilities, possibly requiring a No Objection Certificate only if these requirements are met.
