iPhone 18 Pro is coming: Here’s what’s new with each model

The highly anticipated iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are set to be unveiled next week on September 9. Rumors suggest that these flagship devices will feature significant improvements across performance, cameras, design, and battery life.

Performance-wise, Apple's new A20 Pro chip will power the iPhone 18 Pro, making it more powerful than ever. This chip, which also powers the recently revealed M6, is expected to bring notable upgrades, particularly in support of Siri AI in iOS 27.

The iPhone 18 Pro camera system is also anticipated to receive substantial upgrades. The main camera module is rumored to be entirely new, resulting in a thicker design. Additionally, a variable aperture feature may be available on either the Pro Max model or both devices. Telephoto performance is expected to improve due to a wider aperture, enhancing low-light photography. Furthermore, a redesigned Camera Control is reportedly in the works.

Design-wise, the iPhone 18 Pro will closely resemble its predecessor, with some key enhancements. The Dynamic Island cutout is rumored to shrink by around 35%, and the rear of the device will have a more cohesive blend between glass and aluminum. Excitingly, new flagship colors, including a dark cherry/burgundy shade, are also expected to be introduced. The iPhone 18 Pro will share the same 6.3-inch display size as last year's model, while the Pro Max model will boast a larger 6.9-inch form factor.

Battery life is another area where the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to see significant improvements. Thanks to the efficiency gains of the A20 Pro chip and a new C2 Apple modem, battery life on the iPhone 18 Pro should be better than ever, with a slightly larger battery included. The Pro Max model, in particular, is rumored to have an extended lead in battery life, with leaks suggesting it could have about a 10% larger battery than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Additionally, a new variable aperture camera feature may be exclusive to the Pro Max model, as confirmed by Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter.
