Höegh Autoliners to Equip Entire Fleet with New Navigation Resilience Technology

Höegh Autoliners has entered into a five-year agreement with Norwegian tech firm SGM Technology to equip all 38 of its vessels, as well as future newbuildings, with PntGuard™ navigation resilience technology. This innovation aims to bolster vessel positioning and navigation reliability in areas prone to GPS interference, which has become a growing concern for global shipping operations.

The PntGuard system serves as an alternative positioning source during GPS signal disruptions, instantly alerts crew members when interference is detected, and provides a verifiable record of a vessel's voyage route to aid in compliance and safety. Höegh Autoliners' COO, Sebjørn Dahl, emphasized the increasing risks associated with GPS jamming and spoofing, stating that the fleet-wide rollout of PntGuard is a proactive measure to enhance operational resilience and ensure safe, reliable operations worldwide.

Höegh Autoliners' Head of Global Cargo Operations and Digital Projects, Christian Hall, highlighted the company's commitment to digital resilience, adding that the integration of this technology across its entire fleet positions them at the forefront of maritime safety and efficiency. For SGM Technology, this contract marks one of the largest fleet-wide deployments of its PntGuard technology in the global shipping industry.

SGM Technology's CEO, Steffen Grefsgård, praised Höegh Autoliners for their proactive approach and dedication to safety, innovation, and risk mitigation in an increasingly adversarial electronic environment. Installation of the PntGuard system is set to commence in September 2026, with Höegh Autoliners' future vessels being equipped at the time of their delivery.
