Heavy rain triggers flash floods in Saraburi, tourists stranded

Saraburi experienced heavy rain on August 30, 2026, triggering flash floods that struck several areas, including Cha-om subdistrict in Kaeng Khoi district. The deluge began around 6:00 PM, prompting a swift flow of water downhill and inundating villages in Moo 2, Moo 8, Moo 9, Moo 10, and Moo 11.

The most intense rainfall was observed at Chet Kot Waterfall in Moo 11 and Krok E-Dok Waterfall in Moo 5. This torrential runoff swept through lower-lying areas, initially impacting Moo 9 near Khlong Hin Ruang. Some tourists found themselves stranded at their lodgings.

Community leaders and officials swiftly intervened to rescue those stranded, ensuring everyone's safety. The floodwaters then proceeded downstream towards Moo 8 and Ban Hin Tang, where strong currents were reported near the Thai-Lao Bridge. Water subsequently flooded low-lying regions of Moo 2, Moo 7, and Moo 10, with some locations experiencing inundation in residential areas.

Travel faced challenges as fallen trees obstructed roads, temporarily severing access to certain routes. The headman of Moo 10 deployed a backhoe to clear the debris, opening roads and permitting residents' movement. The response was coordinated by the Kaeng Khoi district administration, subdistrict and village leaders, medical officers, and Cha-om subdistrict inspection teams.

Authorities observed the situation closely, providing ongoing assistance to affected residents and tourists. The flooding originated from heavy rain in upstream and highland areas, causing massive volumes of water to rush into lower-lying zones.

Communities situated near streams and waterways faced heightened risks, as rising water levels led to runoff entering accommodations and low-lying regions. Kaeng Khoi district officials have been monitoring the flood situation and prepared to support those impacted.

Damage assessment is underway to determine additional aid needed for affected individuals. Local authorities are urging residents and tourists, particularly those residing near hillsides, streams, and low-lying areas, to stay updated on official warnings. Should heavy rain persist, they are advised to prepare for further flooding and refrain from traveling through regions experiencing vigorous water flow to ensure their safety.
