GWM is ‘maxxing’ its Jolion with a new SA-bound SUV that bridges the gap to H6

Chinese automobile manufacturer GWM is embracing the latest online trend of "maxxing" its popular Haval Jolion SUV with a new model set to launch in South Africa. Dubbed the Jolion Max, this upcoming variant promises to bridge the gap between the Jolion and H6 models, offering a unique set of features and enhancements.

The Jolion Max stands out with its extended length of 4,590mm, making it 120mm longer than its siblings. However, it is slightly shorter than the H6, by just 113mm. This strategic length difference positions the Jolion Max as a natural intermediary between the Jolion and H6, with pricing anticipated to start below the R500,000 mark.

While retaining the five-seater configuration, the Jolion Max boasts enhanced boot space, measuring 560 litres, outpacing the Jolion Pro. Additionally, the increased wheelbase of 10mm is expected to provide improved legroom for passengers.

The Jolion Max will be offered in three powertrain variants, including the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Like its counterparts, the base ICE model will generate 105kW of power, while the hybrid variant is likely to deliver a combined output of 140kW.

Inside the Jolion Max, passengers will be greeted by a spacious and modern cabin featuring a large dual-screen layout and a floating-style center console. The gear selector has been relocated to the steering column, creating extra storage space. The central screen, measuring 12.3 inches, offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, catering to modern connectivity needs.

South African pricing and specifications for the Jolion Max will be revealed closer to its launch, expected to take place during the fourth quarter of 2026.
