Ghana, India explore armwrestling collaboration as Golden Arms prepare for World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi

Accra, Ghana - The Ghana Armwrestling Federation has held discussions with India's High Commissioner to explore collaborations for sports development. High Commissioner Surinder Bhagat was briefed on Ghana's preparations for the 47th World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi and the potential inclusion of armwrestling in the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The Ghanaian delegation highlighted the growing profile of Ghanaian armwrestling and outlined preparations for the championship, emphasizing the role of India as the host. President Charles Osei Asibey of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation emphasized that this participation could deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and India through sports.

The meeting also discussed using the World Championship as a platform for technical, institutional, and athlete development cooperation. High Commissioner Bhagat expressed willingness to support this initiative, including facilitating connections between the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the Indian business community in Ghana.

The delegation also explored areas of collaborative sports development, such as athlete and coaching exchanges, training camps, technical expertise, and competitions. They expressed interest in creating stronger links with India's private sector in areas like sponsorship, sports equipment, event management, sports tourism, and investment in athlete development.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation sees this partnership as a bridge between Ghana and India, aiming to promote athlete development, coaching, sports business, tourism, and technical knowledge. They aim to use armwrestling as a tool for creating sustainable opportunities for athletes and the broader sporting ecosystem. The delegation remains confident that stronger cooperation between Ghana and India could support the Golden Arms' World Championship campaign, advance efforts to include armwrestling in the 2030 Commonwealth Games, and contribute to the long-term development of the sport in both countries and the wider Commonwealth sporting community.
