Fuel prices set to rise again from Sept 1; petrol could hit GH¢16.21 – COPEC

From September 1, 2026, fuel prices at the pumps in Ghana are anticipated to see a slight increase, as reported by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC). This anticipated rise will impact petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices. The adjustments are primarily attributed to fluctuations in international petroleum product prices, despite the Ghana cedi's recent appreciation against the US dollar.

While global crude oil prices have dipped slightly from $90.41 to $89.30 per barrel, the cedi has strengthened, with the average interbank rate rising from GH¢11.800 to GH¢11.5166 per dollar, a 2.39% increase. Despite these positive economic developments, COPEC projects that changes in Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products will lead to higher pump prices.

Petrol is expected to cost around GH¢16.21 per litre, marking an estimated 5% increase from the current mean price of GH¢15.43. Diesel prices are projected to rise to approximately GH¢17.61 per litre, a near 2.58% increase from the current mean price of GH¢17.17 per litre. LPG is also likely to see a marginal price hike, with COPEC estimating a price of around GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.

These projected price adjustments imply that motorists and LPG consumers may face higher costs at the pumps starting September 1, depending on the prices set by individual oil marketing companies.
