Finance Bill 2027: FG Sets September 11 Deadline for Submission of Proposals

The federal government has set September 11 as the deadline for public submissions regarding the Finance Bill 2027. This call for inputs, conveyed through a circular by the Ministry of Finance, invites various stakeholders, including businesses, investors, and civil society organizations, to propose legislative or regulatory reforms.

The circular emphasizes the need for practical, evidence-based suggestions aimed at strengthening Nigeria's fiscal framework, enhancing the business and investment environment, improving fiscal transparency and accountability, and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Proposals should focus on a wide range of areas, such as taxation, revenue administration, fiscal policy management, revenue and expenditure management, and financial and economic regulation. The government seeks to address gaps, ambiguities, and inconsistencies in existing laws and regulations, reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens, improve the ease of doing business, increase investment productivity, and enhance overall economic efficiency.

Additionally, the proposal should harmonize conflicting provisions, minimize regulatory leakages, and strengthen institutional coordination, transparency, and accountability. Contributors are encouraged to identify specific provisions requiring amendment and provide drafted language where possible. While general recommendations are welcomed, they may be less useful for legislative drafting.
