FBR Misses August 2026 Tax Target But Oddly Beats 2-Month Goal By Rs. 12 Billion

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) surpassed its tax collection target for the first two months of FY2026-27, collecting over Rs. 1.72 trillion, exceeding its goal by around Rs. 12 billion, despite falling short of the August target by Rs. 28 billion. FBR had set a monthly target of Rs. 930 billion for August, but only managed to collect Rs.

902 billion, resulting in a shortfall of Rs. 28 billion during the month. In total, the tax authority collected more than Rs. 1.722 trillion during this period, registering a modest surplus against the two-month target. Notably, FBR has significantly increased taxpayer refunds compared to the same period last year. The revenue authority paid Rs.

155 billion in refunds during the first two months of the current fiscal year, up from Rs. 124 billion during the same period last year, a difference of Rs. 31 billion. This increase in refunds adds pressure to the net revenue position, even as the overall two-month tax collection remains above the government's target.
