A tragic incident occurred at Pantai Kampung Punggai, Pengerang, where a father and his eight-year-old son drowned after being swept away by strong waves. The victims, Mohammad Nizam Zainal, 33, and his son Muhammad Zamri Mikhail, were bathing in the sea around 6pm on Sunday. Nizam's wife, Nurul Jannah Kamaruzaman, 31, recounted that her husband repeatedly tried to save his son by throwing him up multiple times before people at the scene formed a human chain to pull them out of the water.

Despite Nizam's excitement about the camping trip, he had been unable to sleep due to anxiety, leading to his prescription of medication. The family had been on the trip together with Nizam's aunt's family during the school holidays, and they were expected to return home on the same day. Nurul Jannah noted that her husband had not invited her to join them for a swim as he usually would, but it was only after her uncle inquired about their whereabouts that she discovered they were already bathing in the sea.

Both victims were pronounced dead at Bayu Damai Health Clinic, and their bodies were later taken to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem examinations. They are scheduled to be buried at Felda Papan Timur in due time.
