Embakasi undercover operation cracks Nairobi stolen phone syndicate

Undercover police in Nairobi have dismantled a suspected stolen phone syndicate after a tip-off led them to a shop on Munyu Road, according to the National Police Service (NPS). Intelligence had pointed to the busy electronics trading area in the Central Business District as a possible hub for illegal activities. The operation, conducted by officers from Embakasi and Central Police Station, resulted in the arrest of one individual suspected of involvement in the illicit trade.

The suspect, who admitted purchasing a stolen phone from known associates and subsequently selling it, provided investigators with key leads into the network supplying stolen devices across the city.

During a search of the suspect's shop, police recovered 12 additional mobile phones and six phone batteries, further cementing their suspicions that the premises were involved in the trade of stolen electronics. The seized devices are currently under investigation to determine their ownership and ascertain whether they were reported stolen. Forensic analysis of the recovered phones may help identify other members of the suspected syndicate.

The NPS has stated that the operation is ongoing, with additional suspects being pursued based on information gathered during the investigation. Police believe the arrested individual's cooperation could prove instrumental in dismantling a wider network involved in acquiring and distributing stolen mobile phones in Nairobi.
