Elektron Targets Q1 2027 Completion for 40MW Embedded Power Plant in VI

Electron Energy, an embedded power developer, has announced plans to launch its 40 megawatt (MW) Victoria Island Power (VIPL) project, with completion expected in the first quarter (Q1) of 2027. The company recently hosted a VIPL Customer Experience Day in Lagos, allowing customers and business leaders to preview the infrastructure that will provide dedicated, embedded power to a key commercial district in Lagos.

VIPL is being jointly developed by Electron Energy and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP), under a license from the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC). The project is backed by several investors, including ARM-Harith Infrastructure Fund, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), InfraCredit, and the Bank of Industry (BOI).

Designed as a 40MW embedded power network, VIPL aims to offer businesses a more reliable and efficient alternative to self-generation. By managing the distribution network professionally, the project seeks to reduce reliance on diesel and provide businesses with greater predictability, affordability, and control over energy costs and supply.

Elektron Energy's Executive Director, Business Development, Ayomide Oladapo, highlighted that the project addresses long-standing power constraints in Victoria Island. "For years, businesses in Victoria Island have had to operate within the constraints of unreliable power, either absorbing the cost and complexity of self-generation or navigating the uncertainty of the grid," Oladapo stated.

Wärtsilä, a site manager for Energy Services & Upgrade, Mika Gummerus, emphasized the technical partnership behind the project. "Victoria Island Power shows what happens when the right technical expertise, infrastructure, and long-term planning come together," Gummerus said.

As Elektron expands its distributed energy portfolio, VIPL exemplifies the company's mission to democratize access to dependable power by placing generation closer to where businesses require it most. Businesses in Victoria Island can now register their interest to join the network prior to the Q1 2027 launch.
