Eksklusive hoteller fullbooket under kongens gravferd

King Harald's funeral will see a "significant number of foreign monarchs, heads of state and other official representatives" attend, according to a source. All countries with diplomatic representation in Oslo, as well as NATO, EEU and EU member states without a representation in Norway, have been invited. The Grand Hotel, located on Oslo's main street Karl Johan, is among the most fashionable hotels in the capital and is often used by heads of state or other celebrity guests visiting Norway.

As of Monday, all 284 rooms and 54 suites at the Grand Hotel are booked for the days around the king's funeral, as are several other hotels in central Oslo. Several of them confirm they are part of a contingency agreement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs E24 that they have entered into a contingency agreement with several private actors, which will be used in connection with the funeral of His Majesty King Harald.

The agreement includes, among other things, the organization of hotel accommodations for visitors to the funeral. E24 has been in contact with several hotels in the capital's center. Two of them, Bristol and Sommerro, confirm they are part of the agreement. At Sommerro, located on Solli Plass right behind the castle, rooms are still available, but they warn that it could become difficult as they are part of the contingency agreement.

The prestigious Villa Inkognito in Oslo's Solli Plass neighborhood, known as the most luxurious place to stay in Solli Plass, is not available for the funeral day. When King Olav was buried in 1991, it was described as "Norway's largest security operation." Heads of state and monarchs from 103 nations attended. According to Politiforum, 1,500 civilian and uniformed police officers were on duty.

The Continental Hotel next to Slottsparken is sold out both Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The most expensive suite, "The Continental Suite," typically costs around 100,000 kroner per night, according to the hotel's website. It was there that Barack Obama stayed when he was back in Norway in 2025. The Continental Hotel does not comment on the matter.

The historically significant Thon Hotel Bristol, which opened in 1920, is also sold out for September 9th. None of its 249 rooms are available. Thon Hotels' general manager, Morten Thorvaldsen, confirms that Bristol is part of the contingency agreement. This indicates that they will be as helpful as possible with hotel rooms in various situations.
