Disrespect had set in — Hanga reveals why relationship with Kwankwaso broke down

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, from Kano Central, has explained the breakdown of his relationship with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Hanga's relationship deteriorated after he started organizing empowerment programs in his constituency and became more politically active. Speaking to Dan’uwa Rano TV, Hanga recounted a large event where he distributed vehicles, rice, fertiliser, and other items.

He said that when Kwankwaso arrived, he appeared unhappy and eventually left for prayers. The event continued with other political figures present, including Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and Batayya. Later, Kwankwaso confronted Hanga, accusing him of distributing items to garner praise. He claimed Hanga only brought 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of fertiliser, and three cows, calling Hanga’s generosity insufficient.

Hanga apologized and promised to resolve the issue, but Kwankwaso had already sent people requesting that particular individuals receive benefits from the programs, including a vehicle for someone from Shanono outside his district. This further strained their relationship, leading Hanga to conclude that respect had vanished. The senator also noted that Kwankwaso's discomfort with his growing influence and the size of his programs played a role in their falling out.

The conflict between Hanga and Kwankwaso ultimately led to Hanga's unsuccessful bid for re-election to the Senate, whom he referred to as the "Jagora" (leader) of the movement.
