Delhi to Jewar Airport in 60 minutes? New 50-km elevated expressway gets final nod — Here's what we know about it

The Delhi government recently granted final approval for a new 50-kilometre elevated expressway connecting East Delhi to the Noida International Airport in Jewar. This expressway will vastly improve travel times and ease congestion on existing roads. The project, estimated to cost ₹4,000 crore, will operate between Akshardham Temple and the airport, with about 27 km within the Noida region.

Out of the total length, approximately six lanes will facilitate smooth traffic flow, while entry sections will expand to eight lanes to prevent bottlenecks. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will oversee both construction and maintenance, currently in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) phase. The expressway will replace a previous alignment along the Yamuna River embankment, which raised concerns about flooding risks and structural safety.

These issues prompted authorities to shift the alignment five meters towards Noida. Once completed, the new expressway is set to cut travel time between Akshardham and Jewar Airport to 60 to 70 minutes, providing a direct link towards Faridabad via the Manjhawali bridge. This significant infrastructure upgrade will not only enhance road connectivity but also boost the public transport network in the NCR, with a new 72.44-kilometre transit corridor connecting Ghaziabad to the Noida International Airport via Namo Bharat regional rapid rail stations and local metro stations.
