Delhi HC stays ‘unusual’ order granting future interim bail to Tillu gang member

The Delhi High Court has revoked an unusual decision allowing future interim bail to Amit, a key member of the Tillu gang who was initially granted bail in June. Justice Girish Kathpalia overturned the August 17 order, which had granted Amit temporary release from September 10 to October 8. Amit's legal team requested two weeks to file a response, pending the next hearing.

The state argued that granting interim bail with a future date is legally unsustainable and unprecedented. Amit, currently facing 15 criminal charges including murder, extortion, and offenses under the Arms Act, was arrested in July 2020. Initially granted 10-day bail due to his wife's pregnancy, he was later provided with multiple extensions until August 16.

Despite being ordered to surrender by jail authorities on August 17, Amit continued to seek further extensions. The prosecution highlighted that Amit's brother had previously demanded a Rs 2 crore ransom from a businessman, and a co-accused, Himmat, who was granted bail on medical grounds, had absconded and was declared a proclaimed offender on March 24, 2026.
