Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem assumes headship of Denkyira Traditional Council

Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV has officially taken on the role as President of the Denkyira Traditional Council, succeeding his predecessor Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem III after being installed as the 26th Denkyirahene on October 20, 2025. The new head of the council, formerly known as Oscar Mensah Kessie, ascended to his position by a long lineage, having reigned for 61 years following his predecessor's 94-year rule.

The installation ceremony was held at a meeting of the Traditional Council at Amponsem Ahenfie in Dunkwa, where he was sworn in by High Court Judge Justice Kwame Polley, who praised the peaceful transition and expressed readiness to support the speedy resolution of disputes within the Denkyira Traditional Area. Upon being sworn in, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV expressed his gratitude to the traditional authorities for their confidence in his selection and emphasized his commitment to peace, unity, and development within the Denkyira State.

He also thanked the previous leaders for their support and appealed to all traditional authorities to address disputes amicably rather than allowing them to drag on in the courts. The new Denkyirahene further announced plans for the final burial rites of his predecessor next year, followed by the traditional Odwira celebration. Ahead of these events, he called for immediate resolution of the longstanding Diaso chieftaincy dispute, urging factions to resolve their differences prior to the planned traditional gatherings.

Dignitaries including the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Akwesi Sarpong, and the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Rudolf Amoakoh Gyampah, attended the ceremony.
