Cybersecurity: Deutsches KI-Sicherheitsinstitut geht in Berlin an den Start

Berlin, Germany has launched its new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Security and Safety Institute (AISI Deutschland) in the capital city. This development follows a decision made by the National Security Council in June, according to a joint statement from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Digital Ministry. The institute, whose name is AISI Deutschland, will assess the opportunities and risks that arise from AI models for Germany, as well as strengthen the resilience in the field of AI.

The initial phase of the institute will see the Federal Network Agency and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) form the core of the new institution. The BSI will focus on cybersecurity issues, ensuring that AI systems and their data are protected from attacks and misuse. The Federal Network Agency will take responsibility for the safety aspect, dealing with unintended errors such as an autonomous vehicle missing an obstacle or a medical AI missing a tumor on a radiograph.
